South Africa’s Lloyd George Muirhead Harris secured a five-set win over Lukáš Rosol on Monday to book his spot in the 2nd round of the French Open.

Harris, nicknamed “King”, defeated Rosol 6-1, 4-6, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 in 2 hours 32 minutes at Roland Garros.

Harris, who is ranked at number 90 in the world, came into the match as the favourite against the Czech, ranked 147 in the world, and eventually pulled through in a hard-fought encounter.

The South African fired six aces and converted eight break points compared to the Czech who hit five aces and converted four break points.

After trailing two sets to one following the third set, Harris dropped only three games in the final two sets to claim victory.

Harris will face 13th seed Borna Ćorić of Croatia on Wednesday for a place in the 3rd round.
