Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde is scheduled to make a one-day visit to Kenya on Tuesday for talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The talks are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation between the two East African nations.
“The President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, HE Sahle-Work Zewde will pay a one-day official working visit to the Republic of Kenya. The main purpose of HE President Sahle-Work’s visit to Kenya is to deliberate on ways of further strengthening bilateral ties and cooperating on regional issues of common interest with the President of the Republic of Kenya HE Uhuru Kenyatta,” a statement released ahead of the Ethiopian leader’s visit said.
Zewde’s visit comes just three weeks after new Ethiopian ambassador to Kenya Meles Tikea pledged to work on enhancing relations between the two countries.
“One of my top agenda, as I embark on my mission in Kenya, is to strengthen Ethiopia-Kenya people to people relations with support of our people-centred foreign policy,” Tikea said.
Ethiopia and Kenya have enjoyed strong ties for decades, deepened further by the Special Status Agreement between the two countries.
