Prince Harry has confirmed Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex has given birth to the couple’s first child, a boy.
The boy was born at 5:26 a.m. weighing 7 pounds, 3 ounces, Kensington Palace said.
The newborn is Queen Elizabeth’s eight great-grandchild, and the seventh in line to the throne behind the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and his children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – and the Duke of Sussex.
“I’m very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy early this morning, a very healthy baby boy. Mother and baby are doing incredibly well,” Prince Harry said after the birth.
“It has been the most amazing experience I could ever possibly imagine,” he added.
The royal couple’s pregnancy was announced in October as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex embarked on their first major overseas tour that saw them visit Australia and New Zealand.
