Kenya’s Parliament on Wednesday postponed the much awaited vote on the gender bill, after the legislator behind the bill, Aden Duale, requested to have it pushed to a future date.
The House failed to obtain the required number that would warrant the vote, which seeks to reserve more seats in Parliament for women.
For any bill to sail through, it requires support from at least 233 of the Parliament’s 349 members. On Thursday, the members present were well beyond 233, which meant that the vote could not be conducted.
