Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) boss Wafula Chebukati
has recently come under fire over incompetence in leading the commission.
The chairman has had a rough week between battling court proceedings in trying to keep the commission alive and former commissioners who made a dramatic exit, making a return to the office in efforts to get their jobs back.
Chebukati has faced several challenges in 2018 with three commissioners Paul Kurgat, Margaret Mwachanya and Vice chairperson Consolata Nkatha announced their resignations during a press conference in Nairobi in April 2018.
This was quickly followed by Former IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe exposing the rot at the electoral agency, providing the first insider evidence that the August 8, 2017, polls could have been compromised.
In the wake of all these reports and inconsistencies the hashtag #IncompetentChebukati has made the rounds on social media. A few alleged bloggers have been peddling information casting an even dark cloud on Chebukatis tenure as the IEBC chair.
