Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has been ousted.

The 63-year-old lost a no-confidence vote in parliament on Friday, and will be replaced by the leader of the Socialist party Pedro Sanchez.

The no-confidence vote was triggered by a long-run corruption trial, dubbed the Gurtel case.

The case involved 29 people in Rajoy’s People’s Party.

The judges in the trial last week found the PP guilty of benefiting economically from the corrupt network and fined them €245,492 (Around US$287,000).

Sanchez is expected to be sworn in over the weekend and his cabinet appointed next week.
