One Canadian and an American have been kidnapped in the northern Nigerian state of Kaduna, killing police officers, police said on Wednesday.
The American and Canadian were ambushed by unknown gunmen around Kagarko on their way from the city of Kaduna to the capital Abuja on Tuesday evening, Mukhtar Aliyu, a spokesman for the Kaduna state police, said by phone, Reuters reports.
The two police officers killed were escorts to the 2 foreigners. They were killed while engaging in a gun battle with the kidnappers.
In October, kidnappers took four Britons in Delta state in the south. Three were released after negotiations, but the other, Ian Squire, was killed.
Last year February, two German archaeologists were kidnapped in the Abuja-Kaduna area, but were later released.
