Chinese ambassador to Tanzania Wang Ke has promised to support the government in tourism sector by convincing tourists to visit various attractions in Tanzania, local online website, the Citizen reports.

Tanzania is currently struggling to increase the number of tourists from China and other countries.

Ke said that China will become the most important tourist source country in the world with the outbound tourist reaching 700 million in the next five years.

Ms Ke said that she is committed to the people-to-people and cultural exchange between the two nations particularly the cooperation on the tourism sector.

The newly appointed ambassador said that the two nations have a long history in bilateral relationship and that it should be promoted.

Ke also promised to promote an exchange programme of students in order to enhance mutual learning in various fields such as culture, art, media, education, health and sports.

China is Tanzania’s largest trading partner with a total trade volume of $3.88 billion in 2016.

According to statistics from the Tanzania Investment Center, Chinese direct investment to the country is over $7 billion.
