President El-Sisi promises justice for victims of Mosque attack

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has said that the Friday attack that killed at least 235 people and injured more than 100 others will not go in vain.

The blast occurred in in the al-Rawda mosque in the town of Bir al-Abd, 25 miles from the North Sinai provincial capital of el-Arish, shortly after Friday prayers.

After the blast, gunmen in four off-road vehicles opened fire on the worshipers.

In a televised statement El-Sisi sent a message of condolence to the families affected by the deadly attack, saying that the “vile and treacherous” act would not pass without a decisive punishment, and that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

The president gave the speech following a lengthy meeting with a select security committee in the capital Cairo.

No group had claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of the publication of this article.
