Kenyan police fired in the air on Friday to disperse hundreds of opposition supporters gathered outside the Jomo Kenyatta International airport in the capital Nairobi, a Reuters witness said.

Despite a police partial ban on protests in the capital, the demonstrators gathered near the airport to wait for the return of their leader, Raila Odinga, from an overseas trip.

People have been sharing images of the current situation on their social media platforms.

Meanwhile, the country’s Supreme Court said Thursday that it would issue its ruling on Monday next week on challenges to the validity of the October 26 repeat presidential election won by Uhuru Kenyatta.

The initial August 8 elections were annulled by the Supreme Court citing irregularities, calling for a rerun in October.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga did not take part in the repeat election, stating that he had no trust in the Electoral body.
