President Kenyatta congratulates President Xi for successful CPC Congress

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated Xi Jinping as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), following a successful 19th congress which ended on Tuesday in Beijing.

Kenyatta praised the Chinese leader’s achievements over the past five years, saying China’s success had offered new approaches to development.

“Over the past five years, China has accomplished tremendous achievements, and its overall national strength and global influence has grown rapidly. China’s huge success has not only brought prosperity to the Chinese people, but also shed a new light for the world upon the approaches to development,” President Kenyatta said in a statement.

The 19th CPC Congress ended with an approval of amendments to the party’s constitution to incorporate General Secretary Xi’s theory of governance of modern China.

Kenyatta called upon Kenya and China to continue strengthening their relations, saying he looked forward to working with Xi.

“As a strong believer in and supporter of Kenya-China friendship and cooperation, I look forward to working more closely with Your Excellency, top further strengthen the exchanges between our two parties and enhance the Kenya-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to a new high,” he said

Kenya and China enjoy close ties with the Asian country being a major trade partner to the East African country.

Notably, China has spearheaded infrastructural developments in Kenya, and was a financier of the new Standard Gauge Railway, which had its first phase launched earlier this year.

Kenyatta also expressed his assurances that China was headed in the right direction under General Secretary Xi’s leadership .

“I firmly believe that in the coming years, China, under Your Excellency’s leadership, will embrace an even brighter future,” the Kenyan president said.
