Trump tells African leaders many of his friends come to the continent to get rich

US President Donald Trump has hailed Africa as a continent with huge business potential.

During a lunch with several leaders of the African nations, the US president remarked that that most of his friends came to Africa to get rich.

Trump mused about the vast continent’s opportunities and challenges.

“Africa has tremendous business potential,” he said. “I have so many friends going to your countries, trying to get rich. I congratulate you. They’re spending a lot of money,” he said.

“They are spending a lot of money, but it does, it has tremendous business potential and representing huge amounts of different markets and for American firms it has really become a place that they have to go, that they want to go.”

Trump announced that he was dispatching US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley to Africa “to discuss avenues of conflict and resolution and, most importantly, prevention”.

Topic of security was high on agenda with Trump reaffirming Washington’s resolve to help fight terrorism across the continent.

South Africa’s Jacob Zuma and Nigeria’s Muhammadu Buhari were among the leaders at the lunch.
