U.N. chief Antonio Guterres has condemned the attack in Burkina Faso – saying there is no justification for such acts of violence. He made the comments via his spokesperson, Farhan Haq.

“The Secretary-General condemns the terrorist attack perpetrated on 13 August in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso,” Haq said in a statement.

“The Secretary-General extends his heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Burkina Faso and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured. The Secretary-General stresses that there can be no justification for such acts of indiscriminate violence.

“He reiterates the support of the United Nations to Burkina Faso in its fight against violent extremism and terrorism.”
