Three young Ugandans are to receive the Queen’s Young Leaders Award from the Queen of England at Buckingham Palace, London on June 29th.
The three, 19-year-old Joel Baraka, Favourite Driciru, 27, and Ruth Nabembezi, 21 are being recognized for their effort in supporting refugees, young people to find employment and promoting sexual health, local media, the Daily Monitor reports.
The three young Ugandans will join winners from across the Commonwealth in the UK for a programme of inspiring meetings, networking opportunities and bespoke training and mentoring, the report said.
The programme aims to help the winners develop as leaders and work with great impact to transform people’s lives.
According to the report, the winners will visit 10 Downing Street, take part in master classes at the BBC World Service and the UK headquarters of global social media company Facebook.
They will also meet the Commonwealth Secretary-General, take part in workshops at the University of Cambridge among others.
The Queen’s Young Leader Award recognises and celebrates exceptional people aged 18-29 from across the Commonwealth, who are taking the lead in their communities and using their skills to transform lives.
