Ivorian Eric Bailly reveals he snubbed Manchester City to join United

Football fans all over the world will drop every plans tonight to watch the mouth-watering Manchester Derby, as United seek to leapfrog their rivals in the race for Champions League football.

One man that’s likely to play a key role in United’s line up tonight is Ivorian Eric Bailly, signed from Villareal in the summer in a £30 million deal.

If things had taken a slight turn in the summer however, Bailly would have lined up in the Blue side of Manchester tonight.

The 23-year-old revealed that Manchester City had tried to lure him to join them before United came calling.

The defender said that the Red Devils’ manager Jose Mourinho played a big role in convincing him to join the Red side of Manchester.

“Before I came to Man United, it was City who had been watching me. In my mind, I was going there. But then everything changed.

“I was in the Ivory Coast, I got called from a Portuguese number, he introduced himself but I just didn’t believe it at first.

“It felt like Mourinho was the one who really wanted me. He showed more interest, he rang me and that’s why I’m at Man United.

“Man City contacted my agent, Barcelona as well were talking to my agent, but they weren’t as interested in me as Mourinho. He really pushed for the move.”

Tonight, United, who are ranked 5th in the Premier League with just one point separating them from City, will be seeking to storm into the top four, but will have to go past a spirited Citizens side that’s buoyed by the recent return of talismanic defender Vincent Kompany.
