“The Fate of the Furious” races to Box Office’s top spot, with $100 million

The latest installment of The Fast and the Furious franchise has raced to the top spot at the North American box office this weekend.

It’s raked in more than $100 M in ticket sales. The Fate of the Furious features the signature car chases, over-the-top stunts and explosions of the previous seven films.

This time it has the bonus of Oscar-winner Charlize Theron as the villain.

Last weekend’s big earner — The Boss Baby — has dropped to second place, with an estimated haul of $15.5 M.

It’s followed by Beauty and the Beast with $13.6M. In fourth place is Sony’s Smurfs: The Lost Village, while Going in Style rounds out the top with with an estimated $6.35 M.
