South Africa’s former deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas has reliquinshed his position a Member of Parliament (MP) under the country’s ruling party, African National Congress (ANC), the Office of the ANC Chief Whip confirmed on 6 April, reports eNCa.
Jonas lost his position in the Cabinet in President Jacob Zuma’s recent reshuffle. The former deputy minister’s resignation will be effective as at 31 March, 2017.
Office of ANC chief whip’s office said “On behalf of the ANC in Parliament we thank comrade Jonas for his selfless service to the movement as its public representative. We are confident that he will continue serving the country and our movement in other capacities in future. We wish him well.”
South Africa’s Former Energy minister, Tina Joemat-Petterson has also resigned as ANC MP with immediate effect according to SABC. The former minister lost her job when President Jacob Zuma reshuffled his Cabinet on Friday, March 31.

The resignations follow the former transport minister Dipuo Peters resignation as an MP. Peters was removed from her position as transport minister during the recent cabinet reshuffle.
Mass protests are expected to be held across the country on Friday following last week’s midnight Cabinet reshuffle.
