Meet the world’s youngest minister – Shamma Al Mazrui

The Minister for Youth in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), 22 year old Shamma bint Suhail Faris Al Mazrui is the youngest minister across the world.

She was appointed in February 2016 by the UAE Vice President & Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

Shamma Al Mazrui graduated from the University of Oxford in 2015 with a Masters of Public Policy; she also has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from New York University Abu Dhabi.

According to the UAE government portal Shammah is tasked with representing youth issues and aspirations at the ministerial Council, setting development plans and strategies for improving youth capabilities, and utilizing youth energy in various fields.

At her young age, the youth minister has worked in Private Equity at one of Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth funds and as a public policy analyst at the UAE Mission to the United Nations. She has also been an analyst of the Ministry at the Prime Minister’s Office. Shammah has also beens a Research Analyst at the UAE Embassy in DC and an Education Policy Researcher at Tamkeen (UAE Strategic Affairs Authority).
