UN awards Chinese peacekeepers in Mali medals of honour

The United Nations has honoured the 4th contingent of the Chinese peacekeeping force in Mali with Peace Medals of Honour

The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Mali  Mahamat Saleh Annadif and Chinese Ambassador Lu Huiying presented the medals to the 240 peacekeepers.

The awards are in recognition of their efforts in Africa.

“We experienced a lot during this peacekeeping mission. The tasks were heavy and only those who have gone through it can feel the weight of this medal.” Said Yuan Shuai, soldier, Chinese peacekeeping force in Mali

“The mission in Mali, compared with the mission fighting Ebola in Liberia, is more bloody and closer to the battlefield. We had to deal with people suffering penetrating injuries or blast wounds, which are more complex injuries, but I have accumulated more experience of rescuing and treating the injured on the battlefield.” Said Yang Limin Nurse, Chinese peacekeeping force in Mali

One of the soldiers who lost his life in a car bombing, and four others who have been injured, are back in China.
