Kelechi Iheanacho upbeat about leading Manchester City’s attack in Aguero’s absence

Manchester City’s Nigerian prodigy Kelechi Iheanacho is upbeat about replacing prolific Argentine Sergio Aguero at the frontline of the Citizen’s attack over the coming games.

Aguero was handed a four-game ban for his sending off in Manchester City’s last week’s loss to Chelsea. He was sent off for lunging into Chelsea’s Brazilian defended David Luiz as the game wound down.

Aguero has found the net 16 times this season already.

Iheanacho has 5 goals in 14 appearances this season, most of which came as a substitute.

“Sergio’s not around so I have to take responsibility and fill the gap,” the 20-year-old said.

“I need to work really hard to prove myself to the team and help the team get these points we need in the Premier League,” he added.

The Nigerian made a positive impression after being promoted to the first-team squad by Manuel Pellegrini last season, scoring 14 goals.

Manchester City will play against defending champions Leicester City on Saturday, hoping to bounce back from the loss they suffered against Chelsea.
