US government repatriates stolen artifacts back to Egypt


The United States Government has repatriated a collection of stolen artifacts back to Egypt.

They artifacts that were recovered after two investigations were handed back at a ceremony that took place earlier this week at the Egyptian Embassy in Washington DC.

The items include an ancient wooden sarcophagus, a mummy shroud as well as a mummified hand.

According to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, these two operations- “Operation Mummy’s Curse” and Operation “Mummy’s Hand” were aimed at investigating an international criminal network that smuggled cultural items from several places around the world, and at seizing the stolen property from them.
