Rwanda’s National Police has downplayed the rising crime in the capital Kigali reports The Citizen.

There has been an increase in robberies across the East African nation’s capital that includes mugging on the streets with phone, money and valuables stolen and at times with violence.

Rwanda police spokesman Theos Badege said that there are isolated cases that didn’t represent a worrying trend. He added that police has been responding promptly and  engaging in targeted operations and crime mapping to deal with the increase in incidents of robbery over the past month or so in the country.

“We can’t say we have zero crime, these cases do happen, but looking at the security structures and measures in place, crime is under control and we shall continue to see a decline” said Badege
