China’s vice president set to visit Ethiopia

The People’s Republic of China’s vice President Li Yuanchao will make an official visit to Ethiopia next week with the aim of getting the relations between the two countries to get even better.

Yuanchao’s visit was announced by Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

China is one of the biggest trading partners of Ethiopia.

State-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC) estimates China’s investment in Ethiopia over the last five years to stand at around $1bn.

The vice president’s visit comes after the completion of the multi-billion dollar railroad project linking the country to the port of Djibouti, a project that was conducted by China Railway Engineering Corporation and China Civil Engineering Construction.

The railway reportedly cost around $3.4 billion.
