Botswana has reaffirmed its support for the International Criminal Court amid the mounting number of African countries exiting.
The country’s calling for reform not withdrawal. Botswana’s Foreign Ministry has said that while the country fully respects the sovereign right of any party to withdraw from the Hague-based court, it regrets the decision by South Africa to withdraw. The government also said it hopes that South Africa will use the upcoming Assembly of State Parties to the Rome Statute meeting to state its case.
Botswana has also said the ICC is an important and unique institution in the international criminal justice system.
