President Muhammadu Buhari seeks more powers to make emergency decisions

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari plans to request parliament for extra powers for at least one year to allow him take “emergency” decisions to revive the flagging economy.

Africa’s biggest economy contracted in the first quarter and government officials say recession is likely, as vital oil revenues have crashed due to low crude prices.

The government has come up with a bill titled “Emergency Economic Stabilisation” which if passed will give the president more powers such as amending laws which will be submitted to parliament.

The bill would allow the president to ease visa restriction for investors and give them incentives.
