Morocco’s unemployment rate fell to 8.6% in the second quarter from 8.7% in the same period last year.
That’s thanks to employment growth in the construction and services sectors. Services, building activity and industry added 149,000 jobs, helping to offset jobs lost in the agricultural sector due to a severe drought.
Morocco’s economy has started to recover from years of recession largely caused by the Eurozone debt crisis. The Eurozone is Morocco’s main trade partner. The country’s Finance Ministry says economic growth will be lower than 2% this year, down from 4.4% in 2015, mainly due to drought.
