Kenya’s Ministry of Education orders school to re-admit 20 pregnant girls

At least 20 girls who were expelled from a secondary school in Western Kenya for being pregnant have been given a reprieve by the country’s Education Ministry which issued a directive to the school to re-admit them.

The girls aged between 14 and 18 were expelled a fortnight ago after testing positive for pregnancy in December last year.

While expelling the girls, the school principal Peter Kororia is reported to have told them that they were an embarrassment to his school, and vowed not to register those who were to sit their final national exams this year for the tests.

The Ministry of Education however ordered the school to readmit the girls, saying they had a right to continue with their education.
