Newly-elected FIFA president begins term in office in Zurich

Following his victory in last Friday’s FIFA Presidential election, Gianni Infantino began his first day of work as the man at the top of world football in Zurich on Monday.

The former UEFA Secretary General marked his first full day in the role by taking part in a friendly football match with a host of former stars, including Luis Figo, Carles Puyol and Fabio Cannavaro.

Infantino also addressed staff at the FIFA headquarters, promising to fix the damage caused by his predecessor, Sepp Blatter.

The 45-year-old Swiss-Italian claimed victory in a second round of voting last Friday, taking 115 of 207 available votes, 27 more than his closest rival, Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa of Bahrain.
