Liberia’s President Thanks China for Help During Ebola Outbreak During her Visit in the Country

Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has thanked the Chinese government for the support it accorded her country during the Ebola outbreak. The President expressed her gratitude to President Xi Jinping during their talks on Tuesday in Beijing, China.

The Chinese government provided assistance to 13 countries in Africa, both affected and those around the affected countries. China Spent 120 million dollars in its efforts and sent over 1200 medical experts to the countries suffering from the Ebola outbreak.

During the two president’s talks, China promised to provide a new round of aid to the most affected countries in West Africa which include Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone to support the reconstruction post-Ebola and help in the improvement of the public health system.

President Xi Jinping said China is looking to boost cooperation with Liberia on infrastructure, shipping, farming and fisheries, industrial capacity, and manufacturing to realize sustainable development in the African country and turn its abundant natural resources into outcomes that benefit the Liberian people. He added that both countries should increase exchange on medical care, education, culture and mass media in order to have. China is also willing to increase security cooperation to assist Liberia improve and maintain stability.

Liberia will stick to one-China policy and further cement friendship with China based on mutual respect, equality and reciprocation according to Sirleaf, adding that Liberia cherishes the traditional friendship with China.

The two presidents witnessed the signing of three governmental deals, involving visa facilitation, economic and technology cooperation, and shipping.

The two presidents pledged to make joint efforts in making the China and African Countries summit is slated for December this year from 4th to 5th in South Africa a success.

President Johnson-Sirleaf visit to China began on November 1st at the invitation of President Xi Jinping and ends on the 5th of the month.
