City authorities in Uganda’s capital Kampala are battling a Typhoid outbreak.
Health officials say the number of victims has risen to over 1000 from 200 last week, forcing government to close some buildings and ban the consumption of spring water.
It suspected that the infection is as a result of the public either consuming contaminated water or food with most cases being identified in people working around the famous Nakasero Market.
CCTV reporter in Uganda Isabele Nakirya says most of the affected are already receiving treatment while there is a possibility of the number of those affected going up however there are efforts to contain the outbreak. .
Typhoid is a bacterial disease transmitted by the ingestion of food or water contaminated with the feces of an infected person, which contain the bacterium Salmonella.
