US athlete risks angering Americans by wearing Canadian hat in Rio in support of lover
Decorated American athlete Aston Eaton was spotted in the stands of the Olympic Stadium wearing a Canada hat at the Rio Olympic Games as the heptathlon games were on.
Turns out he had a pretty good reason for his actions that immediately angered most US citizens that saw him in the hat.
Eaton, the defending Olympic champion and world record-holder in the decathlon, is married to Canadian heptathlete Brianne Theisen-Eaton. The two met while studying in the University of Oregon where they were both athletes.
While they are both competing at the Rio Olympics, they are representing different countries.
After realizing the reason for Eaton’s actions, most Americans took to twitter to support his show of love and support for his Canadian wife.
Here are some of the tweets;
Anybody who is hating on American #AshtonEaton for supporting his Canadian wife #BrianneTheisenEaton while she competes is a LOSER!

You can wear whatever you like while cheering on your wife-especially anything that says Canada #AshtonEaton #proudhubby

It's a beautiful and rare thing to see spouses compete in the same Olympics. They support each other as married couples should. #AshtonEaton
