Ugandans eye the gold medal at the Olympic Marathon

Uganda’s Olympic champion Stephen Kiprotich promises Ugandans that he will bag a medal in the Rio Olympics as he left for Brazil today in the company of two other Ugandan Marathoners.

The other two medal hopefuls are Solomon Mutai who is a 2015 World Championship bronze medallists and Jackson Kiprop who won the Mumbai Marathon in 2013.

“With my brothers here, I pray the medals come in this order. We have tried it in training and I know we are good. I know every athlete will be planning for me but I have no pressure as the defending champion” Kiprotich said at the flag off

The men’s marathon final will be the last event on Rio 2016 on Sunday reports NTV Uganda.

Uganda will be facing Kenyan team led by Eliud Kipchoge who has since 2014 won four marathon titles. Stanley Biwot and Wesely Korir are the other marathoners on what is by all accounts a strong Kenyan team. And Ethiopia’s Tesfaye Abera, Lemi Berhanu and Fayisa Lilesa according to NTV
