Nigeria’s football players in Rio de Janeiro have boycotted a training session in the build-up to their Olympic quarter-final game against Denmark in a dispute over pay.

The players refused to participate in training yesterday until the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) officials paid them outstanding bonuses and allowances from camping and previous games.

This latest incident comes after the players were held up in Atlanta because of a problem with payment for their flight. The team thus arrived in Brazil just hours before their opening game againt Japan.

Both the NFF and the country’s sports ministry have refused to comment on this latest crisis.
