Ethiopia has submitted a letter to join the Northern Corridor Integration Projects. The initiative is an infrastructure oriented group with Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan and Uganda as members.

The horn of Africa nation showed its interests in the group at the 12th edition of the initiative that was held in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali. The summit also witnessed the signing of more deals between member states including an MOU between Uganda and South Sudan for a Transmission line. The Summit directed the Ministers to ensure that steady progress is maintained and power trading commences by April 2016. Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn will attend the next summit to be held in two months’ time in Kampala, Uganda.

“Normally we meet six times in a meeting like this in a year because we have been meeting once every two months but it would be helpful if say Ministers and their technical support groups if they met twelve times in a year, that is every month, that would get rid of this backlog and therefore help implementation,” Paul Kigame, President of Rwanda
