AFCON 2017: Football legend Samuel Eto’o arrives in Gabon to back Cameroon in final
Cameroonian football legend Samuel Eto’o is in Gabon for the Africa Cup of Nations final that will see his country face seven-time champions Egypt.
Eto’o is the most decorated African footballer of all time having won the African Player of the Year award a record four times: in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2010. He was third in the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 2005.
The 35-year-old was twice an AFCON champion, in 2000 and 2002, Young African Player of the Year in 2000, African Player of the Year in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2010, was included in the CAF Team of the Year in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, and was also the AFCON Top Scorer in 2006 and 2008.
The Cameroonian is in Libreville to back The Indomitable Lions in their quest to win a fifth AFCON title.
Today’s final will be a repeat of the 2008 final that Egypt won by 1-0, with the Cameroonians seeking revenge for that painful loss in Ghana.
Cameroon received huge support from the Gabonese in their semi-final game against Ghana, and will be banking of that support once again as they face Egypt. .
