China Global Television Network (CGTN), formerly China Central Television (CCTV), has today celebrated the five-year anniversary of its African bureau CGTN Africa in a colorful ceremony held at its offices in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
In the keynote speech, Pang Xinhua who is the Bureau Chief of CGTN Africa commended the staff for their work through the five years that CGTN has operated on the continent. He noted the great role that CGTN Africa has played in facilitating Sino-Africa relations, and in helping each side get a better understanding of the other.
The ceremony also doubled up as an award ceremony where various staff members were awarded for their hard work through 2016.
CGTN Africa was launched five years ago as CCTV Africa, before rebranding to the former on December 31，2016. The African bureau focuses on delivering African content, going deep into each corner of the vast continent to achieve this.
Initially, CCTV Africa did only one news hour each day. Five years later however, with an ambition that keeps growing, it has three broadcast hours per day, and this is still expected to grow in the coming days.
